New York with Friends

From NoSuchThing Productions dotcom:

After a brief stent in the “SOBX” Benny and I hopped a plane up to the Empire State to follow the swell. The entire East Coast lit up with surf over the week and through out the weekend. We arrived to drifty, huge, semi-offshore surf and lots and lots of rain. After a quick surf saturday afternoon, we headed to the Baty residence (my girlfriend Mallory’s parents) just in time to catch Birthday steak and cake. They were kind enough to open up the doors of their home (and hot tub) to three smelly, bloodshot-eyed, hungry surfers. A big thanks to the Baty family for letting us crash for three days.

5:30 came brutally early on Sunday morning despite the light offshores and solid morning buoy readings. Bagel and coffee in hand we arrived to find the surf had a weird high tide morning sickness. After the ritualistic spot check fiasco, we ended up back at Lido Beach, the first spot we checked. We weren’t alone by any means. The waves were solid all day and TONS of people showed up to enjoy the swell. We never really got great light for shooting but we scored a few solid clips in sizable east coast surf.

Monday morning brought perfect winds but the swell was on it’s way out. Smaller conditions persisted though out the day and we decided to throw in the towel. After a beer, dip in the hot tub, and a power nap, we grabbed the train into the city to cap off the trip with a few adult beverages.

Oz trip update

The trip is coming to a close. The swell finally dropped off and the rain came in this afternoon. I surfed some fun small waves in the morning and the rest of the day we spent shooting some lifestyle video for the upcoming reef movie. All and all the trip has been great and the town of Byron Bay will never be the same. IM sure the Top pub will miss us and the locals will be happy that we aren’t rolling up to their spots 10 people deep and a full camera crew. Im looking forward to getting back home and chilling out of the sun for a few days before I hit the road again! p10005021

Island hopping

After a long look at the swell forecast in Puerto rico and a few hours spent on google earth we decided to island hop to a spot close by with some potential to surf good waves with no one around. It looked like PR was going to get big for a few days but only a few spots would be good and if you know Puerto Rico then you know the crowds get out of hand. There are about ten boogie boarders per surfer on the island so when your only options are two spots on the whole island its no fun. We are half way there now. A three hour car ride, one flight and now a ferry witch has broke down on us! Hopefully we make it to the island at a decent hour, but hey this is the stuff I live for. IM like a kid in a candy store right now! All I can think about is the waves that we might find and be the first people to surf them. I have Ross Stevens and Brenden Peticrew with me. No photographer or video guy, I could not talk anyone into leaving PR! Brenden and Ross were all about it so IM fired up. I just hope this ferry gets going or Im going to start swimming! BB

Puerto Rico update!

The surf has been fun for the last three days! Nothing special but four feet and really fun. IM staying with reef’s east coast manager Brenden Peticrew in a nice house on the beach. We have been having a blast down here! Surfing twice a day and playing bocce ball in the afternoon in front of the house. My shaper Bob Yinger is down here so we have been working on some new boards and Yinger is just all time. He has some of the best stories ever. We hit the town on Valentines night. Thanks to the local crew Brian Toth, David Santiago and Josie Graves we had a blast and Yinger told stories all night! Tons of swell on the way and check out the photos from the last few days! BB

Puerto Rico!!! Two days of fun waves to start off the trip. I surfed middles all morning with just a few friends, head high with the odd bigger set. No complaints here! It looks like tomorrow will be small but Sunday and monday look amazing on all the swell charts! I should have some new photos up by tonight, so check back. BB
